ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Christianity and abortion

Christianity is a belief system that teaches about following the teachings of Jesus Christ. Abortion is when a woman decides to end her pregnancy by removing the baby from her womb. Some Christians believe that life begins at conception (when sperm meets egg) and therefore, they view abortion as wrong because it ends a potential human life.

Christians believe that God wants humans to value all life, especially the life of the unborn, and to protect it. In the Bible, it says, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you."(Jeremiah 1:5). This verse shows that God is involved in forming every person, even when they are in their mother's womb. Christians believe that everyone, including the unborn, has a purpose and value that comes from God.

However, not all Christians have the same view on abortion. Some believe that in certain situations, such as when the mother's health is at risk, or when a baby has a birth defect, abortion may be necessary. Others argue that this is still taking the life of an innocent person and is therefore wrong. These varying opinions on abortion reflect different interpretations of biblical teachings and personal understandings of morality among Christians.

Ultimately, the Christian belief is that all life is valuable, and decisions regarding abortion should be made very carefully with consideration for both the mother and the unborn child's life.
