Chronology of the colonization of North America

Chronology of colonization of North America means the order in which different groups of people first arrived in and began living in North America. The first people to arrive in North America were Native Americans from Asia. They crossed over from present-day Siberia to Alaska around 10,000 BC. Then, a few hundred years later, other smaller groups of hunter-gatherers began making their way down from Canada to the United States.

The first Europeans to arrive in North America were the Spanish around the 16th century. They were looking for gold, silver and other riches, and began exploring and conquering lands all throughout the continent. Next, the French and English began settling in North America in the 17th century. The French set up colonies along the eastern coast and the Great Lakes, while the English settled in present-day New England and the mid-Atlantic states.

In the late 1700s, the United States declared its independence from the British and started a new country. Over the next few decades, the United States grew larger as it purchased more land and added more states to its growing nation. In the mid-1800s, Canada and Mexico also began to form their own countries.

Today, the United States, Canada, and Mexico are the three main countries in North America. Native Americans are still living in North America and continue to play an important role in many of the regions.
