ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cinema of North Korea

Okay kiddo, so you know how when you watch a movie the actors and the story are made up and not real, right? Well, in North Korea, they also make movies, but they are a little different.

In North Korea, the government controls everything, even the movies. This means that they decide what actors are in the movies, what the movie is about, and even what the characters say and do.

Most of the movies in North Korea are about the government and how great they are. They like to show off how strong and powerful they are, and they don't like to show anything negative about North Korea.

Sometimes, the movies will have a little bit of action or romance in them, but they will always have some kind of message about how great North Korea is.

North Korean movies are not very popular outside of the country because people don't like how much the government controls everything. But inside North Korea, the movies are very important and people enjoy watching them.
