Citronellol

Citronellol is a substance that comes from plants, like flowers and fruits. It's what gives them their nice smell that you might recognize from things like perfumes, soaps, and candles. Think of it like the smell you get from blowing on a dandelion or rubbing a lavender plant between your fingers.

When people use citronellol in products, it's usually to make them smell good because it's a natural fragrance. It's also used in some insect repellents because bugs don't like the smell of it. But just because it smells good to us and bad to bugs doesn't mean it's harmful – it's actually safe to use!
