ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Civilization

Okay kiddo, so when we talk about civilization, it means a group of people living together in a way that's different from how animals live in the wild. These people have created things like buildings, roads, and ways to communicate with each other.

A long, long time ago, people used to live more like wild animals. They'd hunt for food and sleep outside. But over time, some people started to settle down in one place and farm the land. This made it easier to get food and stay put in one spot.

As people started living in one place, they started to develop more complex ways of organizing the group. They made rules and had leaders to help guide the community. They also started to specialize in different jobs, like farming, building, and trading.

As time went on, these groups of people became more advanced in their technology and culture. They created things like writing, art, and even governments. They also started to trade with other civilizations and learn from each other.

Today, civilization is all around us! We live in cities that have been built up over time with roads, buildings, and other infrastructure. We have different cultures and languages, and we interact with people from all over the world. So in short, civilization is all about people living together in bigger and more complex societies.
