Claims to the first powered flight

Hello kiddo! Today I am going to tell you about claims to the first powered flight. So, have you ever seen a bird flying? They fly so beautifully, don't they? Humans also wanted to fly like birds but it was not possible for them because they did not have wings like birds. That's why they invented something called aeroplanes.

Now, let me tell you about a very special moment in history. There are three people who claim to have invented the first powered flight. Their names are Orville Wright, Wilbur Wright, and Gustave Whitehead.

The Wright brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright were two brothers who began experimenting with flying machines in the late 1800s. They worked hard to build an aeroplane that would fly. On December 17, 1903, the Wright brothers made their first flight in North Carolina, United States. They stayed in the air for 12 seconds and covered a distance of 120 feet. This is considered to be the first powered flight in history.

On the other hand, Gustave Whitehead was a German-American who claimed to fly his own plane two years before the Wright brothers. According to Whitehead, he flew his plane in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on August 14, 1901. He and his plane flew a distance of about half a mile. This would make Whitehead the first person to fly a powered plane.

However, many people believe that the Wright brothers' flight was more significant because their plane had an engine and had complete control in the air. Whitehead's plane, on the other hand, was more like a glider with an engine.

So, there you have it kiddo, the story of the first powered flight. The Wright brothers are usually credited with inventing the first successful airplane because their plane was able to perform controlled, powered flights. However, there are still some claims that Gustave Whitehead actually made the first powered flight.
