ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Clarence Erwin McClung

Clarence Erwin McClung was a very smart man who lived a long time ago. He was born in Missouri in 1870 and he liked to study and learn about science. He went to school and college to become a scientist.

One of the things Clarence was very interested in was cells. Cells are like little building blocks that make up all living things like plants, animals, and people. He wanted to learn more about how cells work and how they divide.

Clarence did lots of special experiments and studies that helped him figure out how cells divide. He discovered things like how chromosomes move in cells and how they split up. This was all really important because it helped other scientists understand how things like cancer cells grow and how babies are made.

Clarence was a very important scientist and his work helped others learn more about cells and how they work. Even though he died a long time ago in 1946, his discoveries are still studied and talked about today.
