ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Classification Research Group

Imagine you have a bunch of toys in a toy box, and you want to organize them so that you can easily find a certain toy when you want it. You can group the toys by color, size, or shape, so that all the red toys are in one pile, all the big toys are in another pile, and so on. This is called classification.

Now, imagine that you have a lot of information, like a bunch of books, and you want to organize them in a similar way. You can group them by their topics, so that all the books about animals are in one pile, all the books about history are in another pile, and so on. This is also called classification.

A classification research group is a group of people who work together to figure out the best ways to classify information. They might come up with new methods for organizing data, or they might study existing methods to see how well they work. Their goal is to make it easier for people to find and use information, just like organizing your toys makes it easier for you to find the toy you want to play with.
