In Portugal, we have lots of old buildings and places that are important to our history and culture. We call these buildings and places "built heritage."
To help us understand and take care of these special places, we divide them into different groups. This is called "classification."
The first group is called "National Monument." This is the most important group, and it includes really old buildings that are very special to Portugal's history. Like a castle or a big church.
The second group is called "Public Interest." These are also really important buildings, but maybe not quite as old or special as the National Monuments.
The third group is called "Municipal Interest." These are important buildings for a particular city or town. Like a really old library or a town hall.
The last group is called "Local Interest." These are buildings that are special to a specific neighborhood or community. Like a really old house that used to belong to an important person in the community.
So, by dividing our built heritage into these different groups, it helps us understand how important each building or place is to Portugal's history and culture, and to make sure we take the best care of them.
