Okay kiddo, so you know how we have rules at home, like cleaning up our toys and not hitting our siblings? Well, the government has rules too, but for the whole country! These rules are called laws, and the government makes them to keep everyone safe and happy.
Now, the government has a lot of different jobs they need to do to make those laws work. Some jobs are things like building roads and schools, so that we can get to school and learn things. Other jobs are things like keeping us healthy by making sure our food and medicine is safe to use.
We can break these jobs down into categories, called functions. There are three main functions of government:
1. Legislative function: This means making the laws. Just like we make rules at home, the government makes rules for the whole country. They talk about what the laws should be and then vote on them like we vote for what game to play next.
2. Executive function: This means carrying out the laws. After the government makes a law, they need to make sure everyone follows it. So, the government is in charge of things like the police and the military, who help make sure everyone is safe and following the rules.
3. Judicial function: This means interpreting the laws. Sometimes people break the rules, and the government needs to figure out what to do about it. So, the government has special people called judges who listen to what happened and then decide if someone broke the law or not.
So, there you have it kiddo! The government has three main jobs: making the laws, carrying out the laws, and deciding what to do when someone breaks the laws.
