ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Close-mid back rounded vowel

Okay kiddo, so remember when we talked about vowels and how they sound different when we say them? Well, the close-mid back rounded vowel is one of those sounds.

Now, to make this sound, we have to put our mouth in a certain shape. First, we need to close our mouth a little bit, but not all the way. Then, we have to pull our lips back a bit and round them, like when we blow a bubble with gum.

Once our mouth is in that position, we can make the sound. It's kind of like saying "uh" but with our lips rounded. It's a bit like the sound we make when we say the word "book" or "pull".

The close-mid back rounded vowel is a bit tricky to explain, but hopefully that helps you understand it a bit better. It's just one of the many sounds our mouths can make!
