ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Clove hitch

Okay kiddo, have you ever tied your shoelaces before? The clove hitch is like tying your shoelaces, but for bigger things like tying ropes together when you go camping or tying a big object to your car when you move houses.

Here's how you do it:

1. Take one end of a rope and make a loop.

2. Bring the same end around the back of the other rope.

3. Bring it up over the loop you made earlier.

4. Bring it back down and tuck it under the second rope.

5. Pull on both ends of the rope to tighten the knot.

And that's it! You have tied a clove hitch. It's important to make sure you tie it tightly so that whatever you are tying doesn't come loose.
