ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Coanda effect

The Coanda effect is like a magic trick! When you blow over the top of a straw, the air will move in a curved line, rather than in a straight line, like you would expect. This is because the air wants to hug the surface of the straw, which is called the Coanda effect. This curved, or "hugging", behavior is caused by the air molecules being attracted to the straw, which is made of tiny particles. When you blow air over the top of the straw, the particles move in a curved line away from the straw. This is like a magic trick because normally, when we blow air out of our mouths, the air moves in a straight line, but the Coanda effect teaches us that air movement can be a lot of fun.
