ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Code (semiotics)

Semiotics is a way of using symbols to represent an idea. Code is one way to use symbols to do this. Basically, code is a set of instructions written in a programming language that tells a computer what to do. For example, if you wanted to make a music player, you could write lines of code that tell your computer where to find the music file and how to play it. Code can also be used to display words and pictures on a screen, or to make things move around. So whenever we see something happen on a computer or a phone, code is usually what’s making it happen!
