ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Collaboration with Imperial Japan

During a time long ago, some grown-ups from one country, called the United States, thought it might be a good idea to work together with some grown-ups from another country, called Japan. They wanted to do things like trade and share information to help both countries do better.

However, at that time, not all grown-ups in both countries were happy with each other. Some from the United States were worried that people from Japan might not play fair and take advantage of them. And some from Japan were mad at the United States for treating them badly before.

So, the grown-ups from both countries talked and talked and tried to work out their differences. Some were more willing to work together than others. Then, finally, they agreed to do things like help each other's economies and share scientific knowledge.

It wasn't always perfect and sometimes they still argued, but they kept trying to talk and work together. Over time, things got better and the grown-ups from both countries were able to do more and more together.
