Collective trauma

Well kiddo, collective trauma is when lots of people go through something scary or really bad at the same time. It could be a big event like a natural disaster, war, or a terrorist attack. Sometimes it can be something that happens over a long period of time like living in a place with lots of violence or having really bad things happen to a whole group of people like a race or religion.

When lots of people go through something like this, it can cause a lot of stress and sadness. People might feel scared, anxious or upset. That's because it’s hard to see or hear about so many bad things happening to people like you.

The good news is that people can help each other get through it! Sometimes, people might need to talk to someone like a counselor or therapist to help them feel better. Other times, people might just need to be with their friends and family to feel safe and supported.

Remember, it’s okay to feel upset sometimes and it’s okay to ask for help when you need it. Just know that there are ways to cope with collective trauma and there are people who are there to help you feel better.
