Colonial families of Maryland

Okay, so a long, long time ago, when our country was just starting out, there was this place called Maryland. And in Maryland, there were some families who lived there that were called colonial families. These families were some of the first people to come to Maryland from other countries like England.

These families lived in big houses called plantations and they usually had a lot of land where they grew crops like tobacco. They also had a lot of people who worked for them, called slaves, who didn't get paid and couldn't leave their plantation.

In these colonial families, the dad was called the patriarch and he was in charge of everything. He usually had a wife and lots of kids, but sometimes he also had other people living with him who helped out with the work on the plantation.

These families were really important in Maryland because they usually had a lot of money and power. They were also some of the first people to help build the state of Maryland into what it is today.
