ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Color phi phenomenon

Color phi phenomenon is when your brain sees a series of different colors and thinks they are moving, even though they are actually staying in one place. Imagine you are looking at a traffic light, and it turns from red to green. Instead of seeing the colors change like normal, your brain thinks the red and green are both moving around in a circle. This happens because your brain is trying to make sense of the different colors it sees, and it thinks that movement is the best explanation. It’s a really cool trick that our brain plays on us!
