ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Commodity fetishism

Commodity fetishism is a strange thing that happens when people start to attach too much importance to objects or items, like if you loved owning a special necklace so much that you have to have it with you all the time! It's like the object has become more important to you than it really should be. This happens in the economy too - when people talk about the value of certain things, like stocks and bonds, it can seem like the things are just as important or special as the people who earn the money from them.
