ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Common Criteria

Common Criteria is like a secret password test for computer systems! Just like your parents tell you not to give your password to strangers, computer systems also have secrets that they should keep safe from bad guys.

So, to make sure that a computer system is a good secret keeper, it has to pass a special test. This test is called Common Criteria.

Common Criteria is a series of steps that test a computer system to make sure it has good security. It also checks that the system does what it's supposed to do and is easy to use. Think of it as the same thing as checking if you can do a puzzle before buying it.

After the computer passes the test, it gets a Common Criteria certificate. Think of this as a congratulatory prize - like when you get a star sticker for good work at school! This certificate lets people know that the computer system is good at keeping secrets safe and does its job well.

This way, companies or people who want to buy or use the computer system know that it's safe and can trust it. And they can be sure that their secrets and important information will not be stolen by bad guys.
