Common name

A common name is a name that is used for something that lots of people know about. It can be a thing like an apple or a dog or a place like Paris or New York. Common names are used to help people talk about things more easily because they are easy to remember and everyone knows what they mean. So, if someone says "apple" you know they are talking about the fruit that is usually red or green and you can imagine what it looks like and tastes like. Common names make it easier for us to communicate with each other and understand each other better.
