A compact disc digital audio, or CD for short, is a small, flat circle that has music on it. It's kind of like a plate, but instead of holding food, it holds songs!
The way it works is that the songs are turned into really tiny bits of information that can be stored on the CD. These bits are so small that you can't see them with your eyes – you need a special machine called a CD player to read them.
When you put the CD into the player, the machine uses a laser (like a tiny beam of light) to read the information on the disc. It then turns that information back into music that you can hear through speakers or headphones.
CDs were really popular before streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music came around. People used to buy CDs at stores and listen to them in CD players or car stereos. But they can still be a fun way to listen to music if you like having a physical copy of an album. Plus, they can be a great way to discover older music that might not be available on streaming services!
