ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Compound lever

Hi there, little one! A compound lever is like having multiple levers working together to make something easier to do. You know how you use a lever to lift something heavy, like a seesaw or a crowbar? Well, imagine if you had two or more levers stacked on top of each other, all working together to lift something really heavy.

Let's say you have two sticks. If you push down on one end of each stick, they will both move up on the other end. If you put them on top of each other and push down on the top stick, it will make the bottom stick push down even harder. That's because the second stick is acting as another lever, making the first lever even stronger.

Now, imagine if you had multiple sticks all stacked on top of each other. Each stick is like a lever, and when you push down on the top one, it makes the one below it push down even harder, and so on. This makes it easier to lift something really heavy, because each lever is amplifying the force of the one before it.

So that's what a compound lever is: multiple levers working together to make something easier to lift, push, or pull. It's like having a team of helpers, all working together to get the job done!
