ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Computation in the limit

Okay kiddo, so you know what a computer is right? It's a machine that can do lots of math problems really fast. But sometimes, even computers can't solve every math problem. That's where computation in the limit comes in.

Basically, computation in the limit is a way of trying to solve really hard math problems by looking at what happens when you keep doing a process over and over again. It's like if you had a bucket of blocks, and you kept taking one block out at a time. Eventually, you'd run out of blocks, right? That's like the limit of taking blocks out of the bucket.

So with math problems, we try to find the limit of a process. Let's say we have a really hard math problem, like 1+2+3+4+5... all the way up to infinity. No computer could solve that, but we can use computation in the limit to get pretty close. We can start adding up the numbers, like 1+2=3, then add 3 to 3 to get 6, then add 4 to 6 to get 10, and so on. It takes a really long time, but eventually we can get very close to the answer.

Computation in the limit is used in lots of different areas, like calculus and logic. It's all about finding the answer to really hard math problems by breaking them down into smaller and smaller pieces, and then seeing what happens when we keep doing those pieces over and over again. It's kind of like a puzzle, but with numbers instead of pictures!
