ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Conifold

Okay kiddo, think of a conifold like a piece of paper you can fold in a certain way to make a cool shape. But, let's imagine we're talking about a special type of shape that has to do with math and physics.

In math, sometimes we work with things called "spaces" that have different properties. A conifold is one of these spaces that has a special point in the middle where a bunch of lines come together, kind of like spokes on a wheel. This point is called a "singularity" because it's a little bit weird compared to the rest of the space.

Now, in physics, we use these spaces to help explain things that happen in the universe. Some scientists use conifolds to study how light travels around black holes or how particles interact with each other. It's like they're using the conifold as a tool to help them understand these really crazy things that happen in space.

So, to sum it up, a conifold is a special kind of space with a weird point in the middle that mathematicians and physicists use to study the universe.
