Conradson carbon residue

Conradson carbon residue is a big word that describes the yucky stuff that's left over after you burn something like coal, oil or wood.

When you burn things, there's a chemical reaction that happens where the fuel mixes with oxygen and makes heat and energy. Sometimes, there's extra stuff left over that didn't burn up, kind of like the ash left in a fireplace. This extra stuff is called Conradson carbon residue.

It's called Conradson carbon residue because a scientist named Conradson figured out a way to measure how much of this left-over stuff there is. The more Conradson carbon residue there is, the more junk is left behind after you burn something.

This residue can be bad for the environment, because it can get into the air and cause pollution. Scientists and engineers work hard to find ways to burn fuel more efficiently, so that less Conradson carbon residue is left over. So, the next time you burn something, remember that there might be some yucky stuff left behind called Conradson carbon residue.
