Conscription in Brazil

Conscription is when the government makes people join the military. In Brazil, if you are a man and you are 18 years old, you have to go to the military. This is called conscription.

When you turn 18, the government will send you a letter telling you when and where to go to the military. You will have to go for about one year. During that time, you will live in a special place with other people who are also in the military. You will learn how to be a soldier and do things like shoot guns, march in formation, and follow orders.

If you don't want to go to the military, you can ask to be exempt. There are some reasons that are allowed, like if you have a medical issue or if you are the only man taking care of your family. But if you don't have a good reason, you will have to go to the military.

Some people think that conscription is good because it helps keep the country safe and prepares young men for adulthood. Other people think it is bad because it takes away people's freedom and can be dangerous for the soldiers.
