Contemporary Indigenous Australian art

Contemporary indigenous Australian art means artwork by people from Australia who have long been living there, even before the country was called Australia. Sometimes it is also called Aboriginal art. Contemporary just means it is modern - made very recently or in the last few years.

The art can look very different from what you might see in a regular art gallery. Sometimes it is very colourful and bright, other times more neutral or earthy tones are used. Pictures might also feature geometric shapes or dots and circles, which create a pattern. And sometimes the art features things that are important to the indigenous people, like animals or plants.

Many indigenous artists also share their stories, beliefs, traditions, history, and culture through their artwork. Some artists might create paintings, while others might use natural materials to make sculptures or carvings that have a special meaning.

Overall, contemporary indigenous Australian art is special and unique because it tells the stories of the original inhabitants of the land, and it celebrates their culture and traditions in a modern way.
