ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Continental climate

A continental climate is where it is really cold in the winter and really warm in the summer, and it usually happens in places far away from the ocean, like in the middle of a big continent.

When it's winter, the air gets really cold because the sun isn't around for as long and the ground gets covered in snow. During the day in the winter, it can sometimes get a little bit warmer, but at night it can get super cold.

In the summer, the sun shines for a really long time and the ground gets really warm. During the day, it can sometimes get too hot to be outside for a long time, but at night it usually cools down a bit.

So, basically, a continental climate is a place where it gets really cold in the winter and really warm in the summer because it is far away from the ocean.
