ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Continental fragment

Ok kiddo, imagine the Earth's surface is like a puzzle made up of big and small pieces called continents. A continental fragment is like a small piece of the puzzle that broke off from a bigger continent a really long time ago.

You know how sometimes when you play with toys they can break into smaller pieces? That's kind of what happened to the big continent. Some parts of it got separated from the rest over time because of things like earthquakes, volcanoes, and movements in the Earth's crust.

These fragments can move around a little, but they don't usually move very far because they're not big enough to have a lot of force. They can also be called microcontinents or continental terranes, but they all mean the same thing - it's just a small piece of a bigger continent that's not connected anymore.
