Control points (sometimes called control markers) are part of orienteering. Orienteering is a competion where people try to travel through a course as quickly as possible. The course is made up of points marked on a map, and these points are called control points. Control points tell the competitors where to go and give them checkpoints along the race course. They have to visit each control point in order to complete the race. It's like a game of hide and seek - the competitors have to use the clues from the map and race as quickly as possible to find all the control points and make it to the finish line before anyone else.
