ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Convention on the Issue of Multilingual Extracts from Civil Status Records

Imagine you have a special book that has all your important information in it - your name, your birthdate, where you were born, and who your parents are. This book is very important because it proves who you are.

Now imagine that you travel to a different country where they speak a different language. If you need to prove who you are in that country, you might need to show them your special book. But if they can't read your language, they might not know what your book says!

That's why lots of countries got together and made a special agreement called the Convention on the Issue of Multilingual Extracts from Civil Status Records. This agreement says that when you get a special book like yours, it should come with translations in different languages, so that you can prove who you are no matter where you go in the world.

So if you need to show your book to someone in a different country, you can give them the translation in their language so that they can understand who you are and where you come from. This helps everyone be safe and make sure that people aren't pretending to be someone they're not.
