Copper Country strike of 1913–1914

Okay kiddo! So, a long time ago in 1913-1914, there was a big problem in an area called the Copper Country in Michigan. This problem was called a strike.

Now, a strike is when a group of workers stop working because they are not happy with something their bosses are doing. In this case, the workers were very unhappy with how their bosses were treating them. They felt like they were not being paid enough and were working too many hours.

This strike included thousands of workers who worked in copper mines. They wanted to protest and try to convince their bosses to start treating them better. But the bosses did not listen to the workers and things started to get pretty bad.

The workers were picketing outside the mine entrances, but they were not allowed to be there because it was considered trespassing. So, the bosses called in the police officers to stop them.

The police officers were not nice to the workers. They would use violence to stop the workers and sometimes even kill them. People were very upset about what was happening and there were many protests and fights between the workers and the police.

It went on like this for months until finally the president got involved. He made the bosses and the workers sit down and talk things out. They were able to come to an agreement and the strike ended.

But this strike was a big deal! It was one of the most violent strikes in American history. It showed that workers had the power to stand up for themselves and that the government could help when things got out of hand.
