Okay kiddo, you know how when we go somewhere new, we usually call it by a name? Like, when we go to the park we call it "the park" or when we go to the grocery store we call it "the grocery store"?
Well, it turns out that people all over the world do this, and they call those names "placenames." And in some places, like Egypt, a group of people called the Copts have their own special placenames that they use.
The Copts are a group of Christians who live in Egypt and they've been around for a really, really long time. So long, in fact, that they've developed their own language and culture that's different from the other people in Egypt.
And part of that language and culture is using special names for different places. For example, in Coptic, the capital city of Egypt, Cairo, is called "Kahire" instead. And instead of calling the famous river that runs through Egypt the "Nile," the Copts call it "Piromi."
So really, Coptic placenames are just special names that a group of people in Egypt use for different places. And it's a cool way that they show off their unique language and culture!
