Cord-cutting

Okay kiddo, imagine that you love watching your favorite cartoons on TV, but your parents have to pay for cable or satellite TV to get those channels. Cord-cutting means that instead of paying for those TV channels through cable or satellite, your family uses the internet to stream the shows you love. It’s called “cord-cutting” because you no longer need the cords (or cables) that connect to a cable or satellite box.

Just like how you can use the internet to watch videos of puppies or play games, your family can use websites or apps like Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime to watch movies, TV shows, or even live sports. Plus, some channels like PBS or ABC let you watch their shows for free on their websites.

Not having cable or satellite means that your family doesn’t have to pay a big bill every month for a bunch of channels they don’t watch. Cord-cutting can also let you watch TV on different devices like a tablet, computer or phone, and often gives you more control over what you watch and when you watch it.

So cord-cutting is a way for families to save money and still watch the shows they love on TV.
