Cosmonautics Day is an annual event celebrated in Russia on April 12th to celebrate the first human space flight. On this day in 1961, the famous Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first person to fly in space, traveling around the Earth in a spacecraft called Vostok 1. Today, Cosmonautics Day celebrates the accomplishments of all people involved in space exploration, including cosmonauts, astronauts, engineers and scientists. People celebrate this day by attending special events, watching shows, taking part in parades and visiting museums dedicated to space exploration. Cosmonautics Day also serves as a reminder of the journeys yet to come.
