Council of Constantinople (843)

Okay kiddo, so the Council of Constantinople was like a big meeting that happened in the city of Constantinople in the year 843.

Back in those days, there were a lot of arguments and disagreements about religion and what people should believe in. The people who organized the council wanted to try to settle some of those arguments and get everyone to agree on what they believed.

They invited a bunch of important religious leaders, called bishops, from all over the empire to come to Constantinople and talk about their beliefs.

One of the big topics they talked about was whether or not people should be allowed to use religious icons, which are pictures or statues of important religious figures like Jesus, Mary, and the saints.

Some people thought that using these icons was okay and even helpful for their religious practice, while others thought it was wrong and distracted people from the true teachings of the church.

After lots of discussions and debates, the council decided that using icons was okay as long as people didn't worship them as if they were the real thing.

This decision helped to calm a lot of the arguments and tensions between different groups of people, and it helped to solidify the beliefs of the church in the Byzantine Empire for many years to come.
