ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Countersignaling

Countersignaling is kind of like when someone is doing something because they don't want people to think they are doing it for the wrong reasons. For example, let’s say a person works at a store and everyone who works there is given a discount. The person might not want people to think that they only work at this store because of the discount, so they don’t use the discount and instead buy things regular price. That’s a way of countersignaling.
