A courtesan is someone who is paid to be fancy and charming, and who spends time with rich and important people. Kind of like a hired friend. Courtesans wear pretty dresses and always act polite and sweet, and they are very good at making people feel happy and important. Sometimes, courtesans even have romantic relationships with their clients, but mostly they are just there to make their clients feel good and show them a good time. Back in the olden days, courtesans were really popular in fancy royal courts and among wealthy people who liked to party and have a good time.
