ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Coxswain

A coxswain is like the captain of a boat who helps steer and control the boat during a race. Just like how you might have a grown-up drive you around in a car, a coxswain helps guide the rowers in a boat. They sit at the back of the boat and use a special steering device called a rudder to help steer the boat in the right direction. They also give commands to the rowers on when to start rowing or when to stop. A coxswain needs to be very good at communicating, paying attention to detail, and making quick decisions to make sure everyone is safe and the boat is going as fast as possible.
