ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Craft Unionism

Craft unionism is like a club where people who have similar jobs join together to help each other. Imagine you and your friends love painting and you make a club where all of you who love painting can share your paintings with each other and help each other become better painters.

Now, imagine that there is a group of workers who all have the same kind of job, like plumbers or electricians. These workers might make a craft union. They can share information about how to do their job better, help each other get work, and make sure their bosses pay them fairly.

Just like your painting club might have rules to make sure everyone is included and treated nicely, the craft union might have rules too. These rules could include things like how much money the workers should be paid, how long they should work, how safe their work environment should be, and other important things that will help the workers do their job well and stay safe.

Being in a craft union can be helpful for workers because it gives them a voice and a way to work together to make their jobs better.
