When someone needs special help with their brain, a doctor may need to open up their skull. This is called a craniotomy.
The doctor will use a special tool to carefully cut through the skull and move it out of the way. Once the brain is visible, the doctor can then work on it to fix any problems.
After the doctor is finished, the skull will be carefully put back into place and any stitches or clips will be used to make sure it stays closed. The patient will then need to rest and recover before they can go home.
Even though it may sound scary, a craniotomy is a safe and important way to help people who need extra care for their brain.
