Cross-quarter day

Okay kiddo, you know how we have seasons like winter, spring, summer and fall? Well, a cross-quarter day is a special day that falls in between those seasons.

Now let's imagine a year as a big circle. At the top of the circle, we have the winter solstice where the day is the shortest and the night is the longest. At the bottom of the circle, we have the summer solstice where the day is the longest and the night is the shortest.

The circle is divided into four parts: winter, spring, summer and fall. And right in the middle of each season, we have a special day called an equinox. That's when day and night are the same length.

But now let's focus on the middle point between the solstices and equinoxes. These special days are called cross-quarter days. The first one is called Groundhog Day and is celebrated on February 2nd. The second one is called May Day and falls on May 1st. The third one is called Lammas and is celebrated on August 1st. The last one is called Halloween and is on October 31st.

So, cross-quarter days are special days that fall between seasons and give us a chance to celebrate and have fun!
