ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Crossed module

Imagine you have two different groups of friends, let's call them Group A and Group B. Each group has their own leader, let's call them Leader A and Leader B. One day, Leader A and Leader B decide that they want to become friends themselves.

But here's the tricky part – Leader A and Leader B are used to being in charge of their own groups, so they need to figure out how to work together without stepping on each other's toes.

That's kind of like how a crossed module works. You have two different groups of things, let's call them Group X and Group Y. Each group has their own set of rules and ways of doing things. But sometimes, Group X needs to work with Group Y in a specific way.

So, just like Leader A and Leader B figuring out how to work together, you have two special "leaders" in a crossed module called the holonomy group and the source group. They help Group X and Group Y work together by making sure each group follows the rules and protocols needed for them to collaborate effectively.

Overall, a crossed module is just a way for different groups to work together in a very specific and organized way, kind of like two groups of friends becoming friends themselves.
