ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Crosspicking

Crosspicking is a way of playing a musical instrument, like a guitar or a mandolin, that involves using a pick to pluck the strings in a special way.

When you crosspick, you move the pick back and forth in a diagonal direction across the strings. This is different from just strumming or picking up and down in a straight line.

Crosspicking is called that because the pick seems to "cross" over the strings as it moves back and forth. This technique is often used in bluegrass or old-time music to give a fast and lively sound to the music.

To do it yourself, hold your pick between your thumb and first finger and make small diagonal movements across the strings, using your wrist and arm to create a fluid motion. Keep practicing and you'll be playing like a pro before you know it!
