Cult of Domesticity

The cult of domesticity was a big idea from a long time ago that said that girls and women had a special job to do at home. People thought that girls and women were naturally good at taking care of their homes and families, and that this was their most important job, even more important than going to school or having a job outside of the home. They had to be pure and virtuous and always do what was best for their family, even if it meant sacrificing their own wants and needs. This idea was taught to girls and women for a long time and affects how some people still think about girls and women today. But, thankfully, we now know that everyone, no matter their gender, can do all sorts of things and that it's important for everyone to have opportunities to learn and grow, both at home and outside of it.
