Cultural theory of risk

Cultural theory of risk is a way of looking at how people think about risk. It says that everyone's views on risk and safety come from their culture - the beliefs, values and norms of their family, community, religion and other groups they are a part of in their life. People have different feelings about what is risky and what is safe, because they have been taught different things by different groups. For example, someone who grew up in a religious family with rules about not doing drugs might have a very different view of risks related to drug use, compared to someone who grew up in a family where everyone was allowed to make their own decisions.
