ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cupertino effect

The Cupertino effect is something that happens on a computer. It's named after the city of Cupertino, California where Apple computers are made! When a computer has the Cupertino effect, it looks like it is doing something, but nothing is actually happening. It's like it's stuck in a loop or stuck in one place. Usually you'll see a spinning wheel or something similar show up on the screen. That spinning wheel means that the computer is trying to do something, but it's not getting anywhere. If you ever see this, it's usually a good idea to restart your computer.
