Cutaway (filmmaking)

When someone makes a movie or a TV show, they film lots and lots of scenes that make up the story. Some of those scenes show what's happening inside a building or a machine, and they might be hard to understand just by seeing the outside.

So, in order to help you understand what's going on inside something, they might use something called a "cutaway." This is when they take you away from the main story and show you a different image or a video clip that helps explain what's happening. It's like taking a break from the story to show you something cool or interesting that you might not have understood before.

For example, if the main character is driving a car and there's something important happening under the hood, a cutaway might show you inside the engine so you can see what's going on. Or, if the main character is in a fancy mansion, a cutaway might show you a close-up of the chandelier or a fancy painting on the wall.

Overall, a cutaway is just a little break in the story to show you something important or interesting. It helps you understand the story better and makes it more fun to watch!
