ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cutaway (industrial)

Imagine you have a toy house that you can see through. You can see what's inside the house without actually going in. That's what a cutaway is like in the industrial world. A cutaway is a special kind of picture or model of something like a machine or a building that shows what's inside it.

Let's say we have a machine that makes cookies. We can draw a cutaway picture of it that shows all the different parts that work together to make cookies. We can see the cookie dough getting mixed, the conveyor belt that moves the cookies around, and the oven that bakes them. We can even see the pipes and wires that make everything work.

Cutaways are useful because they help us understand how things work. They are often used in textbooks, manuals, and presentations to teach people about complicated machines or processes. They're also used by engineers and designers to plan and improve products.

So, if you ever see a picture or model of something that has a part cut out of it so you can see inside, that's a cutaway!
